The user base of IRCnet

Tämä sivu suomeksi.

Mario Holbe maintains a list where it is possible to see all the servers connected to IRCnet and the number of users logged on to the server. Based on this it is possible to make statistics about the total number of users coming from servers on different TLD's.

[Usage share as a diagram]

On 2013-08-17 the numbers (cached copy of the list from that day) looked like this for the most popular TLD's:

Other countries do not reach 500 users per TLD. The list of ten most popular servers contains Japan, Finland, United States and the Netherlands. Because the Finnish servers on IRCnet have a policy of only allowing connections from Finnish domains it is possible to make a rough estimate about the number of users residing in Finland.

According to Holbe's statistics, IRCnet was used by 53,417 unique users, so it is possible to calculate a usage share of at least 41 per cent for Finnish users. It is therefore possible to make the assumption that Finns are the largest user group on IRCnet. The second largest group are people using Japanese servers, the amount of which was 18 per cent.
